August 17, 2023

We are excited to be hosting the NBEC Convening this summer on the beautiful grounds of Viles Arboretum.

After hearing feedback from the last convening, we're excited to host a longer convening this year, and one that's outdoors. Looking forward to seeing you there!

NBEC network convenings are where we come together as a network to both foster collaboration between participants, and engage in collective decision-making about our network's focus and direction.

We welcome educators, students, advocates, and others passionate about expanding access to outdoor learning to gather at Viles Arboretum to build interpersonal connections, deepen a shared understanding of systems change, and participate in building the network's working strategy and policy priorities for 2023-2024.

What will the event look like?

  • Shared leadership: Participants from across the network leading the Convening's collaborative and connecting activities.

  • Diving into systems-thinking. Participants will collaborate in small groups to build a shared understanding of the outdoor learning system and where we can make change.

  • Decision-making in action. We'll be deciding on a policy priority for the network (look at the Outdoor Policy Guide for some inspiration!). We will be building on existing policy ideas and generating completely new ones! Takeaways will be actionable and implemented in our working groups.

  • Delicious food from a local caterer and time to reflect and wander among the trees.

What is systems change?

The Nature Based Education Consortium is a systems-change network expanding access to outdoor learning experiences for all Maine youth. We believe in collective impact: people coming together from different sectors and life experiences to solve a problem and advance equity. We are working toward a new and better system by confronting root causes and transforming practices, narratives, policies, resource flows and more. Will you help us build a better future together?
